According to the Bohr model of an atom, there are various energy levels present in an atom. These are also called shells. The closer energy level have the least energy and can only accommodate two electrons. As we move higher the energy of shells increases. In order to move higher shells an electron must gain energy. So when the electron moves from the first level to the second energy level, it must absorb energy.
