Nos dicen que productos hay disponible, quieren convencernos de que elijamos una marca y no otra, o simplemente transmitir un mensaje. Hoy son millones los que ven los anuncios de la televisión, a pesar de que los primeros fueron mucho más limitados. En los mercados se anunciaban a gritos las mercancías, y en las tiendas había grandes carteles que informaban sobre lo que estaba en venta. En los periódicos se anunciaba todo, desde sombreros hasta medicinas.

La publicidad actual forma parte del marketing que también estudia la forma del producto, la guerra de precios , el envase , etc. La propaganda fue surgiendo paulatinamente a través de los medios, generalmente es confundido con el concepto de publicidad.

Por más que hoy podamos encontrar propagandas y publicidades en todas partes, no son muchos los que saben diferenciarlas, por lo que a continuación serán definidos dichos conceptos aclarando que poseen similitudes como diferencias y en que consisten cada una.
