I think that as in Canada, immigration has mostly strengthened our respective countries by bringing people of diverse backgrounds and varied experience and skills to apply them to the building of our country. For example, the Italians in Toronto, Canada are often working in construction as they are skilled in that field including working with concrete. In the US the Mexican Americans became very good at picking grapes  in California for the wine industry in particular or doing domestic work. Latin Americans in general often are highly skilled in the trades and are often very good mechanics or machinists for example because in Latin America parts are very expensive and take a long time to ship to them so oftentimes the parts are made right there or repaired so consequently they have learned to be very skillful tradesmen.
