The Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" in French, which refers to the deep French relationship between this festival and New Orleans City. The Mardi Gras tradition can be traced back to medieval Europe, which can also be called "Boeuf Gras" or "fat calf", which means people will eat fatty food on that day before Easter. This traditional festival developed from Italy to France in the 17th century, then brought the Mardi Gras celebration tradition to the French colony in North America, the state of Louisiana. It is said Mardi Gras had arrived in North America on March 3, 1699. Since then, Mardi Gras has been a part of New Orleans history since the city was first founded.

At the beginning of this celebration, people hold an elegant ball of society to celebrate the festival instead of holding a parade in the afternoon. Different balls are held by different social origins, which are seen as private clubs, the size of the ball depends on the budget of each club.

However, after 80 years, the celebration turned into a daytime street procession, the whole celebration lasted for 2 weeks, with large parades usually taking place every day. Furthermore, Krewes was founded at this time. This social club plays an important role in the history of Mardi Gras. At this social party, the queen (usually young women between the ages of 18 and 21) and the king (an older member of Krewe) from Krewes will appear on a float during the parade. Both Individuals and Krewe members wear different masks and costumes, everyone will celebrate this festival together on the road in a shared spirit during the Mardi Gras festival. The special blend culture of New Orleans with French immigrants makes this celebration unique and full of mystery.
