The Confederation of Canada was the joining or coming together of various colonies in Canada. This coming together led to the formation of the country Canada in the year 1867.

The Colonies that came together are:

a) Newfoundland

b)Nova Scotia

c) New Brunswick

d) PEI ( Prince Edward Island).

Joseph Howe was the leader of the colony in Nova Scotia. He was elected into office in the year 1860. He opposed and voted against the Confederation of the colonies in Canada by leading an Anti confederation party.

But in the year 1867 he joined the Confederation of Canada and in 1873 he served as the Lieutenant Governor for Nova Scotia.
