If you want a proof, then use the fact that you can dilate circle x by a factor of 1/2 then translate it over to circle y.

For example, you can dilate circle X about the origin by a factor of 1/2

Then translate it (x + 5, y - 2).  

Now X is congruent to Y since now X is on top of Y.

This proves the fact that x and y are similar because you used dilation.

because linear equations are a lot simpler than quadratics equations, and linear equations formula is a lot easier to memorize. that's why i think they're harder.
