What is the effect of the many maxims douglass includes in his narrative?
a) the maxims make known the values of people during douglass’s life.

d)the maxims damage the authority of his autobiography because not all of them are true.

I would go with letter c.  Even though he was a slave, Douglas was a person with a thirst for knowledge as well as freedom.  He also went through many hardships in his life which probably made him want to expect to the North.  He proved that a man should not be measured by his color or his status but his willingness to better his situation and Douglas strove hard to achieve that.
