When was the American Civil War?

The American Civil War too place between the years 1861-1865 and was fought between the United States (the Union) and the rebellious Confederate States of America. 

The American Civil War took place from 1861 to 1865 and was fought to see whether the Union would become independent form the Confederacy, which was made up of Southern states who wanted to be free from the Union and to be able to continue to practice slavery, which they viewed as a right in and of itself.
