A command economy is a system in which the government has control over the production, pricing and distribution of goods. Therefore consumers do not have the power to choose between competitors for a specific type of good or service, as there is a shortened amount of goods, which are all produced by the same agent, the government.

On the contrary, a free market economy is based on the concepts of supply and demand, and as a result of this, the consumer has a key role within the system, in which their decisions will directly affect the way the economic system performs and the path it takes.
