In the 1850 dred scott case, a missouri jury ruled that only scott, not his wife, should be free. that the scotts should be granted their freedom. that the scotts should remained enslaved. that only scott’s wife, not scott, should be free.

The Dred Scott decision found that the Scotts, as African persons, were both not free persons because the Federal government did not have the power to outlaw slavery in the states. The Supreme Court, then, found that both should remain enslaved and that they did not have the ability to have standing in a court of law as non-citizens.
