Botticelli, Michaelangelo, Raphael, and Dante were all sponsored by the Medici family at some point in their careers. This meant money, fame, and anything else the painter could desire. But of course, for that kind of investment they expected some quality work. This meant they only trained and hired the best of the best. Also, since the painters could focus all their time and energy on art, the works were amazing. Not only the nobles, but the church sponsored art as well.
