Why might people find totalitarian regimes attractive

People want a sense of security, the knowledge that no matter what happens there’s something protecting them or making them feel superior because of their government. example: north koreans worship their leader because they are convinced they are the strongest country in the world. they have that sense of security given to them through their country’s propaganda.
