after the fall of Paris the French surrendered before the Germans and signed an armistice on june 22 1940. under the armistice germany held two-thirds of france. the rest of the area was administered by marshal henri-philippe petain and was named (fascist france, nazi france, vichy france) or the “french state”. the (jews, religious minorities, blacks) faced discrimination in france for the first time.
