Explanation:  After leaving Egypt, the Israelites wandered through the desert for 40 years. Traveling through the desert was very hard, sometimes dramatic and on the brink of a fratricidal conflict. The Exodus from Egypt is of course an important event in the history of Israel, but during a journey through the desert before they arrived in   Canaan, something that may have been more important happened.  As they traveled to the promised land, Moses received the Ten Commandments, which formed the basis of Jewish belief, morals and ethics.
