Did WWI and the rise of Totalitarian States (Fascism & Nazism) and new philosophies such as existentialism, and modernism kill Classical Liberalism (what we now call conservatism)? Why or Why not? You should discuss issues such as 1) Consider the rise of the "New" Liberalism which was sympathetic to socialism. 2) Whether New and Classical Liberalism absorbed any aspects of Totalitarianism. 3) What role disillusionment played in reshaping political ideas. Be sure to support your argument with examples from the text such as quotes, specifically interwar social and political movements.
