The Byzantine empire was what was left after the fall of the Roman Empire, and the eastern Roman empire would become the Byzantine empire so they had a large influence from the Roman empire from so many years of Roman control, they kept their language traditions, religion, and literature after the fall of the Roman empire, this is why so many of the Roman Culture was preserved.
