With both slave masters, Frederick was beaten and sustained injuries though the last master severely beat him to a point where he felt broken.  

While working at the plantation he forged passes pretending to be the slave master to grant permission to leave the plantation with the aim of celebrating Easter holiday. The plan didn't go through since someone snitched on them.
