Was it wise to seek a return to normalcy after world war 1?

As we already know a return to normalcy was United States presidential candidate Warren G. Harding’s campaign promise during the elections of 1920. He wanted to return to Republican domination of the Oval Office and avoiding foreign problems. I believe that it was a wise decision and it also allowed for Harding to win the election because people liked his plan.
