1. insects are generally very small but at one point in history insects were much larger. there is an extinct species of insect related to dragonflies called meganeura monyi that lived in the carboniferous period (359.2 to 299 million years ago) that had a wing span of over 70 cm (28 inches)! current dragonflies only reach wing spans of about 10 cm (4 inches). what factors might might have allowed this to happen?
