What is the difference between explicit and implicit information?
Write your own definition for the term inference. Try to be as detailed as you can.
-what does inference mean?

-why is it important/useful when studying texts?

Why do we use textual evidence when exploring and explaining inferences?

List the four things you are interpreting when making an inference about a literary text.

Section B

Make sure you have read the Lottery Pt 1 by Shirley Jackson

Write an overview of the explicit meaning of the story so far. You donā€™t need to make inferences in this section just explain, in your own words, what happens.

2.

It is now time for you to start making some ā€˜inferencesā€™ based on your reading and interpretation of the story.

You could make inferences about any section of the text and can focus on people/places or a mixture of both.

Write four detailed paragraphs about four inferences you have made. Follow this method to make sure you write in as much as you can.

For each paragraph:

Introduce your idea that you have inferred from the text.
What evidence from the text have you got to support this inference? Make sure you include the evidence as it appears in the text and place inside ā€œspeech marksā€ to show you have taken it from the text.
Now discuss and explain the ā€˜deeper meaningā€™ of your inference and how your evidence supports your idea.
