Follow these steps to ROCK your 1 paragraph response: 1) Read the writing prompt 2) Read the reading passage/short story 3) Fill out the 6-step outline (simply fill-in-the-blanks and then type each completed sentence below the fill-in-the-blanks templates) 4) Finally copy & paste each of your 6 sentences you created in the outline onto the bottom of the document into a nicely formatted paragraph. YOUR WRITING PROMPT (read carefully): What is the point of view (1st person or 3rd person) and tense (mostly past tense, present tense, or future tense) the author uses most often in the short story ā€œThe Rescue Missionā€ and how does the story being told that way enhance the story? Use evidence from the text to support your response. Your response should be one complete paragraph (at least 6 complete sentences) with at least 2 quotes from the passage to fully support your point. Your 6-Step Outline Remember! Use the Example Sentence Templates (always highlighted in green) to fill-in-the-blanks and those will be your sentences:
Step/Sentence 1: Make your point regarding what the question is askingā€”identify what the point of view is (first person or third person?) and the tense (mostly past, present, or future tense?) that the story is being told from and how that affects readers.
ļƒ˜ Example sentence template: The person point of view and the ___ ___tense are used in the story. The ___person point of view makes the story more and the tense makes the story more. (Think about the effect of the author using the point of view and tense you identified; is it more suspenseful, more personal, more engaging, more urgent feeling?).

Step/Sentence 2: Look in the story and find a sentence (direct evidence) that supports or proves your first point (about what point of view the story is being written in) and then introduce that evidence in this sentence.
ļƒ˜ Example sentence template: An example of the author using ___ person point of view is found in paragraph ___ when the narrator describes ā€œ.ā€

Step/Sentence 3: Explain your first piece of Evidence. Explain how the direct evidence sentence you chose from Sentence 2 (see above) supports your point about how the point of view effects the readerā€™s experience.
ļƒ˜ Example sentence template: In the quote, (ļƒŸDescribe what is happening in the direct evidence you chose; For example: In the quote, the narrator is sharing his inner feelings about his experience), which affects readers by making the story more because .

Step/Sentence 4: Look in the story and find your second piece of direct evidence that supports or proves what tense the author mostly uses (past, present, or future tense) and then introduce that evidence in this sentence.
ļƒ˜ Example sentence template: A strong example of the narrator using ___ tense is seen in paragraph ___ with the quote ā€œ.ā€
Type your sentence hereļƒ

Step/Sentence 5: Explain your second piece of Evidence: Explain how the quote you used in Sentence 4 (see above) supports your point about how the tense of the story affects the readerā€™s experience.
Example sentence template: In the quote, (ļƒŸDescribe what is happening in the direct evidence you chose from Sentence 4; For example: In the quote, the narrator is describing the intense events as they are happening to him in the moment), which affects readers by making the story more because .
Type your sentence hereļƒ

Step/Sentence 6: In your conclusion sentence, you will simply summarize/emphasize your main points (rewrite your topic sentence in a new/different way) and conclude your paragraph rather than summarizing the story itself. (TIP: Suggestion ā€œIn conclusion, (insert your reworded topic sentence).ā€
