In 1933 British journalist and writer vera Brittain (1893-1970) published Testament of Youth, A volume of memoirs that detected her coming of age and maturation during the years 1900 – 1925. The following passage is an excerpt from Britain’s memoir in which she reflects on her early educational experiences. Read the passage carefully. Compose a thesis statement you might use for an essay analyzing the rhetorical choices Britain makes to convey her perspective on education for a British girls in the early 20th century. Then select at least four pieces of evidence from the passage and explain how they support your thesis. In your response you should do the following:

Though my school took a few borders, most of its pupils were local; in consequence the classroom competition was practically nonexistent.
