Can anyone fix the sentence structure to make it sound more professional?

This was a time when I was caught in a rhetorical situation. Once, my parents made me take piano lessons. I had to convince them that this was absolutely unnecessary as I was least interested in taking the classes as I am not skilled at it and it was unreasonably time-consuming. I was hoping to land on a compromise with them at some level but the obstacles kept coming.

For one, it was our family tradition to start playing the piano from a very young age. Also, my elder siblings carried on this family tradition and now I was expected to carry on and live up to it.
