"baseball bores me" by sam hughes
baseball is rather surprisingly known as "america's favorite pastime." it is a rather boring sport played between two teams of nine players. as silliness would have it, the players use a wooden or metal bat to hit a ball around a diamond-shaped playing field. at each of the points of the diamond is a marker, called a base. home base is where the batter stands. players from the opposing team are positioned at the other bases: first, second, and third. a batter scores a run by hitting the ball and running around the bases before members of the other team can tag him with the ball. the batter must run counter-clockwise around all of the bases and back to home to get a point. this might sound exciting, but it's not.

Which excerpt from the awakening best highlights the elation edna feels when she thinks of robert? the morning was full of sunlight and hope. edna could see before her no denialā€”only the promise of excessive joy. she lay in bed awake, with bright eyes full of speculation. ā€œhe loves you, poor fool.ā€ he would come to her in the afternoon or evening, sit and roll his cigarette, talk a little, and go away as he had done the night before. but how delicious it would be to have him there with her! robert did not come that day. she was keenly disappointed. he did not come the following day, nor the next. each morning she awoke with hope, and each night she was a prey to despondency. his horses were full of mettle, and even a little unmanageable. she liked the rapid gait at which they spun along, and the quick, sharp sound of the horses' hoofs on the hard road.
