What is the purpose of paragraphs 4-9 ("this much we pledge . . " and the four paragraphs that follow)? they explain specifically how kennedy plans to honor his promise that the united states will do everything it takes to uphold liberty in nations across the world. the paragraphs describe how kennedy intends to influence other countries to support the united states in taking the lead as a global super power. the paragraphs work together to develop the idea that kennedy will commit the united states to stepping in to govern countries that turn away from communism. each paragraph describes a different part of the world in which kennedy pledges military support from the united states to prevent the spread of communism.
