Methyl nitrate, CH, NO, is used as a rocket propellant. The skeleton structure of the molecule is CH, ONO,: The N and three O atoms lie in the same plane, but the CH,
group is not in the same plane as the NO, group. The bond angle C-O-N is 105° and the
bond angle O-N-O is 125°, One N-to-O bond length is 120 pm and the other two are
136 pm each.

a. Draw a Lewis structure of the molecule showing its geometrical shape.
b. Describe the bonding scheme and the probable atomic (including hybrid) orbitals
involved.
c. Explain why all three N-to-O bond lengths are not the same.
d. Is the specie a polar molecule? If so, show the direction of the net dipole.

Which statements are true concerning mineral formation? check all that apply. the slower the cooling, the larger the crystals. the faster the cooling, the smaller the crystals. crystals formed from magma are smaller than crystals formed from lava. minerals can only form in solutions when the solution is heated deep underground. when a solution cools, elements and compounds leave the solution and crystallize as minerals. minerals formed from hot water solutions can form narrow channels in the surrounding rock.
