What is the pH of a solution of a weak acid H2CO3 (carbonic acid) which is 1.2 x 10-5 M ? What is the pH of this weak acid when1.0 x 10-4 M NaHCO 3 is added to it. The K at of the weak acid is 4.3 x 10-7
Hint:
H2CO3(aq) = H+ (aq) + HCO3(aq)
NaHCO3(aq) → Na+ (aq) + HCO3(aq)
pH (before) = 5.64, pH (after) = 9.53
pH (before) = 7.00, PH (after) = 8.00
pH (before) - 3.79, pH (after) = 5.92
PH (before) = 5.64, pH (after) = 7.29
