Nuclear fission describes a nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus, such as uranium, is bombarded by neutrons causing the atom to split into two or more smaller atoms. The fission reactions take relatively little energy input to occur and do not occur in nature. Fission produces many highly radioactive particles and releases large amounts of energy. Predict the changes in the nucleus as uranium-235 is split in a nuclear reactor.
