Earlier springs caused by climate warming are referred to as "false springs" and are a trial for plant life. The early onset of warm weather prompts plant buds to become leaves and flowers. However, this early warming is not sustained and the weather becomes cold once again. This fluctuation causes the leaves and flowers that the plants have produced to wither and die. Once the weather warms again, the plants must again input the same amount of energy and resources that it did last season to produce the flowers and buds. This means that the plants are always behind the weather, and cannot produce fruit and flowers on time. This offset causes ecosystems to be disturbed.
