Project Innocence heard Ronnie's plea. They reviewed all of the evidence and found some blood samples found at the scene of one of the murders: blood spatter on the victim and an adjacent birdbath. Police had assumed the blood was that of the victim but it could also have been the murder's blood. Project Innocence requested blood samples from the roommates of the murdered students.
