Although LTP is one of the main ways that neurons learn, scientists have identified other mechanisms. One of the most intriguing mechanisms that have been recently discovered, is "activity-dependent myelination," which involves preferential myelination of axons that are active during learning.
Although we don't fully understand this process, this suggests that in the central nervous system are likely to play some role in learning, as well.
a) Astrocytes
b) Microglia
c) Oligodendrocytes
