What would be some possible effects of connective tissue disease?

Connective tissue disease include some diseases where tissues rich in protein, that support body parts and organs get damaged. These tissues include cartilage, bones and fats and the diseases caused by the damage of these tissues include joints pain, muscles damage and skin damage etc.

However, the problems from Connective tissue disease are not solely confined to these organs and can effect other organs too like kidneys,lungs,heart,eyes,blood vessels and gastrointestinal tract. More than two hundred connective tissue disorders exist that show a variety of effects, Here we will discuss only few:

Epidermolysis bullosa:

This connective tissue disorder effect the skin by making it very fragile that even a minor cut can tear the skin and leave blisters. This occurs due to defect of some proteins.

Marfan syndrome:

This syndrome affects ligaments, heart, eyes, and blood vessels. The people suffering from the disease have very long bones and abnormal placement of eye lenses. This is caused by genetic mutations.

Osteogenesis imperfecta:

This conditions makes the bones very brittle and lowers the mass of joints, muscles and ligaments. It can also cause Curved spine,Thin skin  and breathing problems in the person suffering from the disorder.

This also occurs due to mutation of genes.

Polymyositis and dermatomyositis:

In both these disorders, inflammation of skin and muscles occur and can cause symptoms fatigue, weakness, Shortness of breath,Difficulty swallowing ,Weight loss .

Note: These are some of the effects discussed but as mentioned earlier there are more than 200 disorders of connective tissues and their effects can vary from one to another.
