The Ottoman Empire practiced Islam, which theoretically forbids any artistic representations of human beings, since such pieces could be construed as idols. For this reason, religious paintings and wooden statues were rare in the Ottoman Empire. Gothic cathedrals were even more rare, since Cathedrals are Christian houses of worship, and since the Gothic period predated the Ottoman Empire and was centered farther west in Europe. The Ottomans were, however, very famous for their rugs, and even today some of the best rugs in the world are still made in Turkey, Iran, and other parts of the former Ottoman Empire.

Because it is an outlet. most people are very shut off so they will write poetry to.. almost rant. sometimes people can’t say their feelings out loud so they make it into an art form that is poetry, and write it down.
