Fabian Fucan openly resents Christianity, and opens his treatise calling the religion a “creed”. He believes that religiously Christianity presents very little truth, a religion “of the barbarians”. Fucan also claims that Christianity would destroy Japanese culture because it resents everything the Japanese practice. Politically, Fucan believes the missionaries’ mission is to overthrow the government by spreading their religion because the Japanese government is so entrenched in the Buddhist and Shinto ways; such has already happened in the Philippines and Mexico. He believes that such a barbaric religion will not have an impact on the Japanese people, because “their land by far surpasses others in fierce bravery”.
