Explanation: The meaning of being a buddhist means accepting and following triple gems.Buddhism can be followed by any person whether the person is a monk or a person living a normal life(eg: Lord buddha's father attained nirvana but was never a monk).buddhism is not a religion ,it is way of life .Refraining from bad deeds[akusal] and engaging in  good deeds(kusal)  is the preaching of all Lord Buddhas.In conclusion any living being(gods ,humans ,animals) who follow the path of Lord buddha(nirvana-getting rid of worldly sorrows(atalo dahma]} is regarded as a buddhist.
