The new personal care workers are planning a night out to celebrate the end of their probationary period. The team
leader responsible for the new staff is organising dinner at a local pub advising staff they welcome to bring a friend or
partner. One of the new instructors Tom, is planning on bringing his partner of 5 years, Dave. When the news
circulates to the team leader, he pulls Tom aside and tells him it would not be appropriate to bring his partner as it
may impact the reputation of the facility and cause discomfort among the other staff.
a) Is Tom being discriminated against? Explain your answer.
