it is important to learn how to adress correctly people of different cultures to avoid offending the culture unintentionally. For example if you are used to greeting people by hugging it might seem offensive to other cultures that are used to greeting people by kissing their cheek or by not touching each other at all. Other cultures do not allow men to touch women that are not their husband. By touching this person you could be offending their culture.

When someone is standing too close to me or invading my personal space i would usually tell them to respectfully take a step back. However, if i knew this was due to a cultural norm i would do my best to get educated on it to make the interaction the least uncomfortable and awkward as possible.
