Erik erikson believed that people who experience isolation and stagnation in earlier adulthood are more likely to experience despair in later adulthood. Despair means to be left without hope or be in a state of lose. To experience despair in adulthood shows that the person suffered early in life leaving them with a loss of hope as they grew up.
