Kennedy studied multicultural intermarriage and described a phenomenon she called a "triple melting pot," referring to the multicultural intermarriage within three separate groups:

The three groups were the Jews, the Protestants and the Catholics."The triple melting pot" concept was developed by the sociologist Ruby Kennedy who based his conclusions on the study he conducted on intermarriage trends in New Haven, Connecticut. His study encompassed the period from 1870 till 1940.
