How were the fundamental orders based on religion?

The Fundamental Orders ( of Connecticut) mention God in numerous times. The force behind the Orders were the religious Puritans, and they mention that the one of the purposes of their association ( they call it "Commonwealth) is to preserve the Gospel and live according to it.
