How did the early social reform movements influence the women’s rights movement? Women were not allowed to take part in the social reform movements, so they started the women’s rights movement. Future leaders of the women’s rights movement got their start working for social reform movements such as abolition and temperance. Members of the women’s rights movement later chose to join other causes such as the abolition movement.
