In some places the slave trade increased the power of the African monarchy and led to economic strength. However in places where there was a competition between slave traders. The slave trade undermined the African monarchy, led to constant chaos/war, destroyed political unity, and disrupted African society.

the kingdom was rich in goods like gold, iron, and salt. it established strong commercial ties with the regions governed by rome, egypt, and persia (arabia). aksum was a key location in this commercial network. trade was also facilitated with the introduction of the aksumite currency.
