A religious rebirth for many Americans, the Second Great Awakening caused millions of people to join churches and become more religious. The Second Great Awakening happened mostly between the 1790s and the 1830s.
The social forces making America more religious had an especially strong effect on white women. The mostly middle-class women were the main drivers behind the comeback of Christianity.
