Why did people challenge copernicus idea that the sun was at the center of the universe? what was missing in their logic?

Hey! I know other people are using this website so a heads up to anyone having trouble, this idea was challenged because of 1. stuborness and pride. 2. people had not discovered gravity yet so they would try to disprove spinning Earth by shooting an arrow and saying "It's not going off into the sky, is it?" at this point in time they thought that God was the thing bonding things to the Earth so there was strong argument.
