The Aral Sea is a lake located in Asia, between Kajazstan and Uzbekistan. It was the fourth largest lake in the world, but in 1997 it had already been reduced to the 10% of its original size.  Its size started to diminish in the 1960s decade, when the rivers that fed the lake were diverted as part of the irrigation projects started during the URSS era.
