Why was the articles of confederation more successful during the revolutionary war than they were after the war ended?

The Articles of Confederation were better during the Revolution because there was nothing else. They were an agreement by the 13 States to come to each others aid in a time of emergency from a foreign invader. They gave the central government (Congress) no powers of taxation, no powers of governance, and no budget. It did allow for the Governors of each state to send his states militia to another state for service in the Continental Army. The problem was there was no provision to pay for the feeding, clothing, and housing the Army. The Congress had no money and the Governors felt they no longer had to pay for troops who passed into Continental service. After the war was won, Congress felt the need for power given to the central Government to provide for the common defence and to be given powers of taxation to pay for it.
