How did muslim turks influence turkeys development?

Muslim Turks seem to be resisting Western influences. Women in the cities were westernized. Women professors said that headscarves were not allowed on campuses or in government buildings. I've heard that's changed in the last few years as Muslim culture has become more prominent.
