The city has wider variety of job choices compared to in plantation which mostly related to agriculture. This is why many of the enslaved people in cities sometimes worked in skilled trades such as accounting, financial analyst, nursing, carpentry, painting, sculpting, etc.

The different needs in cities were reflected in the different jobs that the slaves performed, in cities slaves could be requiered to learn certain job that requiered more skills, in the plantations they were just field workers because that´s what they needed but in the cities they needed construction workers, blacksmiths, carpenters and other skilled jobs, even the slaves from rural areas were rented for a city master while they weren´t needed at the plantations.
