Help! Why was communism was such a threat to the American government?

It goes against everything America stands for, and there's only so much you can do against communists with the rules around a democratic republic.

Murray B. Levin wrote that the Red Scare (a communist scare) was "a nationwide anti-radical hysteria provoked by a mounting fear and anxiety that a Bolshevik revolution in America was imminent—a revolution that would change church, home, marriage, civility, and the American way of life."
