This works by each branch checking on each other to make sure their power is not being abused. This helps the common good because the President can veto any unconstitutional law. For example the legislative branch can't make a law to ban guns because it will be vetoed by president because it is unconstitutional. This is how checks and balances works and keeps our system of government from being corrupted.
